Pierpont “Evening with the Arts” Series Kicks Off at Library

The Wheeling Arts and Culture Commission will soon launch a free, regular arts program.

Styled “Evening with the Arts,” the new monthly (and sometimes bi-monthly) program will showcase a variety of arts and local artists, including play readings, living history portrayals, poetry, performing arts, music, visual arts and more at rotating venues around town.

The first offering from “Evening with the Arts” will feature Travis Henline, site manager of West Virginia Independence Hall in an interactive, living history portrayal titled, “Providence only knows what will be the outcome”  A conversation with Gov. Francis Pierpont. Known as the “Father of West Virginia,” Francis Harrison Pierpont served in Wheeling as the first governor of the Restored Government of Virginia during the Civil War and helped lead the way to statehood. The program will begin at 7 PM on Thursday evening, April 19 in the auditorium on the lower level of the Ohio County Public Library at 52-16th Street in Wheeling .

“Evening with the Arts” will return to the library on Monday April 30 at 7 PM, when Jeremy Richter of the Independent Theater Collective will lead a reading of a new original play in the auditorium. Additional “Evening with the Arts” will be announced as they are scheduled.

The Wheeling Arts and Culture Commission also organizes the annual Wheeling Arts Fest, featuring live music, dancers, painters, potters, authors, theater and more.  The 2012 Arts Fest will begin at 10 AM on Saturday July 14 and the venues will include West Virginia Northern Community College Square, West Virginia Independence Hall and the library.
