Arts Fest Announced

The  second annual Wheeling Arts Fest will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at West Virginia Northern Community College Square, West Virginia Independence Hall, and the Ohio County Public Library.  The festival is a project of the City of Wheeling Arts & Cultural Commission.

The Wheeling Arts Fest 2012 will include music, theatre, visual arts, dance, literary arts, historical, culinary, and cultural arts.  There will be two stages of dance, theatre, historical, and cultural performances throughout the day.   Our Artist Market will transport visitors into a live artist community. All of the participating artists at the Wheeling Arts Fest will demonstrate their craft for the community throughout the day. The Artists Market will provide a unique art event where you can view and purchase the works of local Wheeling and regional West Virginia artists.

This project will bring the arts to the Wheeling area and encourage families and those who normally would not be exposed to the arts to experience them in a familiar and comfortable festival setting.  This event will serve to heighten cultural and art awareness and foster economic development in Wheeling by bringing crowds to the downtown area that may otherwise not  visit.  Families will enjoy a fun and educational experience while local businesses will see an upturn in profits from increased traffic in the area.  Admission to the festival is free.

Wheeling, WV – The City of Wheeling Arts and Cultural Commission will host “Dance Gallery” at the Ohio County Public Library Auditorium on Thursday, March 15, 2012, from 7-8:30 p.m.

Dance Gallery is an improvisational dance and visual arts event that incorporates audience participation. Featured artists scheduled to present include Patricia Croft, Bob Sako, violinist Matt Pickart, and poet Marc Harshman. Allegro Dance Company, a touring company based in Wheeling, will also feature performers in the showcase.

“Dance Gallery allows the audience to see how visual art inspires choreography,” explains Anna Pishner Harsh, the show’s artistic director. “The artists will create a mini-gallery to discuss with the audience. Based on those discussions, the dancers and musician will interpret and perform each piece live on stage.”

A professional dancer and West Virginia native, Harsh formed Allegro Dance Company in 1994. The company has toured throughout the U.S. and Italy, fusing traditional Italian dance with other styles for a unique multicultural experience.

Dance Gallery tickets are available for $15/person or $25/couple. All tickets must be purchased prior to the event by calling Anna Pishner Harsh (304-242-2826) or emailing arts@wheelingwv.gov.
